Newton Wins Mattoon Girls Meet, St. A Fourth

MATTOON -- Newton High School claimed a girls track meet Monday with 139.5 points.

The Eagles were followed by Mattoon 101, Olney 58.5, Effingham St. Anthony 36.5 and Paris 35.5.

Ana Rodriquez, a sophomore, and Brooklyn Herman, a junior, claimed two wins each for the Eagles. Rodriquez captured the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 9 inches and the 200 in 29.6 seconds. Herman captured the 100 in 13.34 seconds and the 400 in 1:04.38 minutes.

Liz Volk was a winner in the 100 hurdles in 17.83 seconds. Allyson Kuhl took the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

Newton claimed the 400 relay in 52.28 seconds, the 1600 relay with a time of 4:20.53 minutes and the 3200 relay in 11:06.65.

Avery Rogers, a junior, was a winner for Effingham St. Anthony in the discus with a throw of of 95 feet.
