Three Area 1A Tracksters Qualify for State Finals

Three area athletes qualified for the finals at the Class 1A State Track and Field Meet Thursday at Eastern Illinois University.

Nate Brown of Altamont, in fact, advanced to the finals in two events. The senior reached the finals in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 11 inches. He also advanced to the finals in the discus throw with a toss of 151 feet, 10 inches.

Two other athletes reached the finals, and they advanced in the same event, the pole vault.

Tim Moore, a sophomore from Altamont, and Dylan Webster, a junior from Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, each went 13 feet, three inches to reach the finals.

The Opening Ceremonies Saturday will begin at 9;30 a.m. The field events begin at 10 a.m. with the long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump. The discus will follow at 12:30 p.m.

Competing but not qualifying to the finals from the area were:

400 Relay -- Newton (Peyton Doughty, Trenton Duncan, Kyle Zumbahlen, Rhett Kocher), 44.23 sec.; Cumberland (Ryan Yaw, Tyson Magee, Wyatt Brant, Myles Gerhardt), 45.33 sec.

800  Relay -- Newton (Peyton Doughty, Trenton Duncan, Jadon Kuhl, Adam Bridges), 1:34.14 min.

1600 Relay -- Newton (Tucker Rieman, Collin Harris, Ben Carr, Kyle Zumbahlen), 3:34.70 min.; Cumberland (Wyatt Brant, Tyson Magee, Ryan Yaw, Myles Gerhardt), 3:43.24 min.

100 -- Ryan Yaw (Cumberland), 11.60 sec.; Peyton Doughty (Newton), 11.71 sec.

200 -- Trevor Fletcher (Neoga), 23.55 sec.

400 -- Myles Gerhardt (Cumberland), 51.92 sec.

Long Jump -- Zack Gresens (Neoga), 19 ft. 9 1/4 in.

High Jump -- 1. Jason McWhorter (Brownstown/St. Elmo), no height; Tyson Magee (Cumberland), 6 ft. 1 in.; Paul Esker (Teutopolis), 6 ft. 1 in.

Pole Vault -- Jason Kowalski (Teutopolis), 13 ft.

Triple Jump -- Trevor Fletcher (Neoga), 40 ft. 9 3/4 in.; Zack Gresens (Neoga), 40 ft. 1/4 in.

Discus -- Joey Kingery (Teutopolis), 141 ft. 6 in.; Jared Kollman (Altamont), 136 ft. 2 in.
