Mattoon Claims T-town Quadrangulars

TEUTOPOLIS --Teutopolis High School played host to Mattoon, Newton and Brownstown/St. Elmo in boys and girls track Tuesday.

Mattoon captured the girls meet with 116 points followed by Teutopolis 79, Newton 67 and Brownstown/St. Elmo 5.

T-town claimed five first-place finishes in the meet. Ellie Buening won the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 7 inches. Anna Hartke nabbed the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch. Jolene Bueker was a winner in the pole vault at 8 feet, 6 inches. Morgan Mette won the 300 hurdles in 52.42 seconds.

The Shoes also nabbed the 800 relay  in 1:55.44 minutes.

Newton picked up three victories. The Eagles won the 400 relay in 52.21 while Stacey Smithenry captured the 110 hurdles in 17.67 and Sarah Carr won the 800 run in 2:35.98.

In the boys meet, the Green Wave also claimed the team victory with 131 points followed by T-town 87, Newton 46 and Brownstown/St. Elmo 6.

T-town had six first place finishes and Noah Blievernicht earned three of those. Blievernicht won the 110 hurdles in 16.16, the 300 hurdles in 44.54 and the 200 in 24.6.

Mitch Hardiek claimed the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 6 3/4 inches. Jason Kowalski won the pole vault at 11-0. The Shoes won the 3200 relay in 8:55.50.

Newton's Joe Stone won the 1600 in 4:47.04.
