Effingham Wins Boys Tennis Sectional

Effingham High School won the Casey-Westfield Boys Tennis Sectional Saturday with 22 points.

St. Anthony tied Charleston for second with 18 points, Teutopolis was fourth with 13 points, and Mattoon was fifth with 10 points.

Cole Buehnerkemper of St. Anthony High School won the singles tournament, downing Brennan Buchanan of Robinson 6-0, 6-2 for the title.  Kyle Brumleve of Teutopolis and Aaron Meyers of Effingham also go to State, Brumleve defeating Meyers for third place 6-1, 6-2.

Sean Hussey and Alex Gowin of Charleston won the doubles title, defeating Isaac Foreman and Jason Wohltman of Effingham 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3, but both teams go to State.  Also going to State in doubles are Parth Maheshwari and Jared Minor of Effingham who lost the match for third place to Eddie Kemper and Cody Hollensbe of Casey-Westfield.

State tournament play will begin Thursday throughout the Chicago area.
