EHS, T-town Win In Tennis Action, St. A Falls

Effingham High School claimed a 6-3 victory over Robinson in tennis competition Monday.

The Hearts picked up three of the six singles wins and swept the doubles matches.

Thad Dillow was a winner at No. 1 by 6-0, 6-1 counts. Blayne Pals took No. 2 in a hard-fought match. He won the opener 6-1, lost 6-7 (4) then won 10-6. Evan Pryor finished out with a victory at No. 5, 6-0, 7-5.

In doubles play, Dillow combined with Pals to win at  No. 1, 6-1, 6-2. Tyler Nohren and Preston Siner took the second match, 5-7, 1-1, default. Pryor combined with Ross Schaefer to win. The pair lost the opening set 6-4 but came back strong 6-1, 10-7.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 1 -- Thad DIllow (E) defeated Eli Rosborough (R), 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 -- Blayne Pals (E) defeated Aiden Elder (R), 6-1, 6-7 (4), 10-6

No. 4 -- Owen Schmidt (R) defeated Preston Siner (E), 6-2, 6-4

No. 3 -- Pryor-Schaefer (E) defeated Cody Waggoner-Cash Veteto (R), 4-6, 6-1, 10-7

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis easily handled Casey-Westfield, blanking the visitors, 9-0 Monday.

Paul Niemerg kept his opponent from scoring at No. 1 singles with 6-0, 6-0 tallies. Ethan Thoele was a 7-5, 6-0 winner at No. 2.

Kolten Tabbert won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 while Hayden Jansen picked up the 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4. Oliver Lee took the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-1 and Gus Siemer finished out at No. 6, winning, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles, Thoele and Josh Habing were 6-3, 6-4 winners at No. 1. Tabbert and Colin Habing took the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-0. No. 3 went to Niemerg and Carter Davidson, 6-1, 6-0.

The Wooden Shoes fell in a match Friday to Charleston by a 5-4 count.

The points for the Shoes came at No. 3 singles as Tabbert was a 6-3, 6-4 winner and No. 6 singles as Lee won 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).

In doubles, T-town was a winner at No. 2 as C. Habing and Tabbert won 6-4, 6-0 and Niemerg and Davidson captured No. 3, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7)

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Mount Zion and dropped a close 5-4 match Monday.

The two teams split singles victories. St. Anthony's Manaye Mossman was a winner at No. 1, 6-3, 6-4 while Henry Kemme took No. 5, 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 and Isaac McDonald won at  No. 6, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, the Bulldogs won at No. 3 as Evan Mossman and Adam Rudibaugh combined for the win, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.
