Macy Probst, Isabelle Hemmen Finish Fifth At State Tennis Tourney

Teutopolis High School's Macy Probst and Isabelle Hemmen finished fifth in the Class 1A State Tennis Tournament Saturday.

The pair started out in Thursday competition, winning over Catherine Engels and Ava Lannen of LaSalle-Peru, 6-1, 6-1 and Aleena Ciezak and Kelsey Collins of Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge, 6-0, 6-0. The duo defeated Josie Hotsinpiller-Ava Towne of Danville, 6-0, 6-2.

In Friday action, the pair picked up their first and only loss against Emilee Pak and Sophie Baker of Chicago University, 6-1, 7-5 on Friday. That pair went on to place second at State. That dropped Probst and Hemmen into the consolation bracket where they defeated Rachel Abraham and Maeve Paris of Oak Park Fenwick., 6-0, 6-3.

The duo went into Saturday play and won over Sophia Esquivel and Megan Hackman of Wauconda, 6-2, 6-2 in the semifianls of consolation draw. That put the T-town pair into the fifth place match where they won over Trinity Hardin and Megan Trifilio of Oak Park Fenwick,. 6-1, 6-4.

The T-town pair were the only non-Chicago team to make the top eight.

The Wooden Shoes finished tied for 13th place at State as a team.

Probst and I. Hemmen were welcomed home with a firetruck parade Sunday along with teammates Grace Hoene who competed in singles and Lexi Will and Olivia Hemmen who also competed in doubles.
