EHS Blanks Salem, T-town Beats Mattoon In Tennis

Effingham High School blanked Salem, 9-0 in tennis competition Monday.

The Hearts had victories from Lydia Kull who won at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-1; Eden Wendling at No. 2, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-3; Madison Mapes at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0; Aila Woomer at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0; Izzy Volpi at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1 and Gracie Kroenlein at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Kull and Woomer combined at No. 1 to win, 6-1, 6-1. Wendling and Kroenlein claimed  No. 2, 6-0, 6-0 and Mapes and Volpi downed their opopnents, 6-1, 6-0.

The EHS junior varsity also won, 7-3.

At Effingham

No. 1 -- Lydia Kull (E) defeated Kaley Blomberg (S), 6-4, 6-1

No. 2 -- Eden Wendling (E) defeated Brynn Metcalf (S), 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-3

No. 3 -- Madison Mapes (E) defeated Aressa Eisenhauer (S), 6-1, 6-0

No. 4 -- Aila Woomer (E) defeated Savanna Davis (S), 6-1 6-0

No. 5 -- Izzy Volpi (E) defeated Maddy Malone (S), 6-0, 6-1

No. 6 -- Gracie Kroenlein (E) defeated Kaley Schoonover (S), 6-0, 6-0

Doubles

No. 1 -- Kull-Woomer (E) defeated Blomberg-Metcalf (S), 6-1, 6-1

No. 2 -- Wendling-Kroenlein (E) defeated Eisenhauer-Davis (S). 6-0, 6-0

No. 3 -- Mapes-Volpi (E) defeated Malone-Walker (S), 6-1, 6-0

Junior Varsity

Effingham 7, Salem 3

Doubles

Sorling-Duckwitz won, 6-3

Macklin-Emmerich lost 6-3

Chalry Kreke-Parker won 6-0

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis handily downed Mattoon by an 8-1 count Monday.

The Wooden Shoes swept through singles action. Macy Probst won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 while Grace Hoene took the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-0. Isabelle Hemmen won 6-3, 6-4 at No.3. No. 4 went to Lexie Will, 6-0, 6-1. Olivia Hemmen took the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 6-0 while Julian Hemmen won at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Probst and Hemmen were winners at No. 1 by blanking their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Hoene and J. Hemmen took the No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-2.
