St. Anthony Edges Mount Zion, 5-4

Effingham St. Anthony High School edged Mount Zion 5-4 in tennis action Thursday.

The Bulldogs took the top three singles spots while Mount Zion captured the next three. Cole Buehnerkemper won 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot while Frank Jansen claimed No. 2, 6-0, 6-2 and Scott Rentfrow won 6-2, 6-1.

The Bulldogs then took the top two doubles spots to pull out the victory. Buehnerkemper/Rentfrow combined to win 6-1, 6-2 while F. Jansen and Jay Niebrugge were winners 6-2, 6-3.

The Bulldogs kept their record spotless at 6-0 and will be back in action Saturday at the Troy Triad Invitational.

No. 6 -- Will Sands (MZ) defeated Alec Niebrugge (SA), 6-4, 6-4

Doubles

No. 1 -- Buehnerkemper/Rentfrow (SA) defeated Lake-Roberts (MZ), 6-1, 6-2

No. 2 -- F. Jansen-J. Niebrugge (SA) defeated Scott-Stone (MZ), 6-2, 6-3

No. 3 -- Sands/Beavers (MZ) defeated L. Jansen-A. Niebrugge (SA), 6-2, 6-3
