Serena Williams withdrew from the French Open Wednesday due to an injured Achilles tendon, something she first suffered nearly three weeks ago at the U.S. Open.

Williams pulled out about an hour before her second-round match.

In play on Day 4 Wednesday, second- and third-seeds Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem both won their matches, as did top-seeded woman Simona Halep.
