Bulldogs, Shoes Pick Up Tennis Wins

FLORA -- Effingham St. Anthony took four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches in downing Flora, 6-3 in tennis competition Thursday.

Allison Kowalke grabbed the No. 1 victory with 7-5, 6-3 scores. She then combined with Caroline McDevitt at the No. 1 doubles for a win in a tough match. Flora won the opener 6-4 but the Bulldogs clawed back with 6-4 and 10-6 scores for the victory.

McDevitt also was a winner in singles play at No. 3. She lost the opener 6-4 but came back strong with a 6-0 win and claimed the match, 10-8.

Ali Adams won her match easily in singles play at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2. Then combined with  Emily Kowalke to take the No. 3 doubles spot, 6-2, 6-1.

Laura Schmidt provided a point for the Bulldogs at No. 5, winning 6-2, 6-1.

At Effingham

Effingham played host to Paris and fell to the visiting Tigers, 6-3 Thursday.

The Hearts picked up only one point in singles play. Aila Woomer won at No. 4. She took the opener 6-1 then fell in the second set, 7-5 before coming back for a 10-6 win and the match.

In doubles play, Woomer combined with Gracie Kroenlein at No. 3 to win, 7-5, 6-4.

Riley Arend and Madison Mapes combined to take a really tough victory at No. 2. Arend and Mapes went 7-6 then took the tiebreaker (7) The pair then won 7-6 (2).

At Effingham

Teutopolis easily handled Mount Zion to the tune of 9-0 in action Thursday.

Grace Hoene won the top spot in singles, 6-1, 6-3. Isabelle Hemmen blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Carley Habing took the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-2. Kenna Koester went 6-3 then lost the second set 7-5 but came back with a 10-7 count for the win. Lexi Will won 6-0, 6-1 and Olivia Hemmen 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Macy Probst and I. Hemmen were winners, 6-1, 6-0. Koester and Will combined for a 6-1, 6-0 count. Molly Niemerg and Grace Schumacher took the final spot 6-0, 6-2.
