Dominic Thiem mounted a big comeback after losing the first two sets to the win the U.S. Open championship Sunday against fifth-seeded Alexander Zverez of Germany 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (6), becoming the first man in 71 years to win the final after dropping the opening two sets.

It's the first Grand Slam title for Thiem, who was seeded second in the coronavirus-affected U.S. Open in Queens, New York. The 27-year-old Austrian's victory coming on a fifth-set tiebreaker was also the first time the event had ever been won that way.

Japan's Naomi Osaka won the women's U.S. Open on Saturday, defeating Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. It was the second U.S. Open title for the fourth-seeded Osaka, after she won in 2018, and her third Grand Slam.
