Rafael Nadal doesn’t think tennis will return this year. The 33-year-old Spaniard, who’s ranked second in the world, told ‘El Pais’ and other Spanish newspapers Tuesday, “I would sign up right now just to be ready for 2021. I’m more concerned with the Australian Open [in January 2021] than with what happens later this year. I think 2020 has been practically lost.” Nadal said having to move players from country to country for tournaments would make it difficult to return safely amid the pandemic.

Money Raised By Tennis For Relief Fund

More than $6 million has been raised by the WTA and ATP Tours, the International Tennis Federation, and the groups that run the four Grand Slam tournaments for a relief fund to help 800 pro tennis players deal with the financial fallout of the pandemic. The groups said Tuesday the money will be divided evenly among women and men, and will go to both singles and doubles players. Most pro tennis players rely on playing in tournaments for income, and they’ve all been suspended.
