Excellent Results from Area Players at Girls Tennis State Tournament

Some of the best results ever were posted by area players this weekend at the girls tennis state tournament.

Alli Brumleve and Macy Probst of Teutopolis advanced to the fifth place match before being eliminated. Brumleve and Probst won their first three matches, then lost, then won two more times before losing the fifth place battle to Ella Marvel and Regan O'Fallon ot Ottawa Township, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) to finish 5-2 at State.

Ironically, the Teutopolis duo had to beat the St. Anthony doubles team of Allison Kowalke and Averee Greene 6-3, 6-2 to reach the fifth place match.

Kowalke and Greene had also won their first three matches before losing, then bounced back with a win before losing to Brumleve and Probst in the consolation bracket semifinals, finishing 4-2 at State.

In singles play, St. Anthony's Emilee Mossman had a great run, winning her first three matches, losing and then winning before losing in the consolation bracket semifinals to Daniella Nenadovish of Lisle Benet Academy, 6-1, 6-3 to finish 4-2 at State.

Earlier in the competition, Diana Mossman of Teutopolis lost then won then lost to finish 1-2 at State, and Newton's Jacelyn Street won twice then lost then won before losing in the fifth round of the consolation bracket to finish 3-2 at State.

The Bulldogs died for fifth place as a team while Teutopolis tied for ninth place. Newton finished 26th.
