Teutopolis Claims Tennis Sectional Crown

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Effingham St. Anthony Tennis Sectional Saturday, edging the Bulldogs by a point.

The Wooden Shoes scored 23 points followed by St. Anthony 22, Robinson 16, Newton 14, Mattoon 9, Paris 8, Charleston 6, Casey-Westfield 6, Effingham 4 and Shelbyville 2.

Emilee Mossman of St. Anthony captured the No. 1 singles spot by beating Sydney Littlejohn of Casey-Westfield, 6-0, 6-0; Jessilyn Hall of Newton, 6-0, 6-0; Diana Mossman of Teutopolis, 6-0, 6-1 and Jacelyn Street of Newton, 6-0, 6-2.

Street took second defeating Caroline Deters of St. Anthony, 6-0, 6-0; Chloe Noel of Paris, 6-1, 6-1; Rachel Thomas of Charleston, 6-0, 6-0 and falling to Mossman.

Mossman finished third by beating Caroline Kull of Effingham 6-0, 6-0; Sarah Staller of Robinson, 6-3, 6-0 before falling to Mossman of St. Anthony and then downing Rachel Thomas of Charleston, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, T-town's Alli Brumleve and Macy Probst won the title by beating Willenborg-McDevitt of St. Anthony, 6-0, 6-0; Walker-Hargis of Robinson, 6-1, 6-0; Richardson-Eckerty of Casey-Westfield, 6-3, 6-1 and Averee Greene-Allison Kowalke of St. Anthony, 6-3, 6-2.

Kowalke and Greene won over Mason-Sherwood of Casey-Westfield, 6-0, 6-2; List-Clements of Robinson, 6-1, 6-2; Huene-Stortzum of Mattoon, 6-1, 6-2 before falling to Brumleve and Probst.

The top four singles players and top four doubles team head up to the State Tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday around the Chicago area.
