SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham St. Anthony High School finished second in the Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Tennis Invitational Saturday.

Winning was Sacred Heart-Griffin with 31.5 points followed by St. Anthony No. 1 30, Bloomington Central Catholic 29, Alton 25.5, Quincy Notre Dame 25.5, Niles North No. 1 19.5, Rochester 17, Niles North No. 2 11, St. Anthony No. 2 5, Chatham Glenwood 3, Lincoln 3, Greenville 1 and Jacksonville 0.

St. Anthony's Emilee Mossman claimed the No. 1 singles championship.

Mossman had a first round bye then defeated Maddie Saenz of Alton, 6-0, 6-0, won over Maggie Ames of BCC, 6-0, 6-0 and easily claimed the title match over Lia Quintero of Quincy Notre Dame, 6-0, 6-0.

Ali Adams competed for the Bulldogs, winning her opener over Greenville's Sarah Brannon, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7. She fell to Niles North's Alexia Galinsky, 6-3, 6-4 to drop into the consolation bracket before losing to Chatham Glenwood's Julia Kagan, 8-3.

In the No. 2 singles, St. Anthony's Catherine Willenborg had a bye then fell to Sacred Heart-Griffin's Agnes Cross, 6-2, 6-4. Dropping into consolation, Willenborg won over Greenville's Heidi Summers, 8-1 before downing Niles North's Rebecca Lorenz, 8-1. That moved Willenborg into the consolation championship but it ended up not being played.

In the No. 3 singles, Caroline Deters picked up her opening round victory over Quincy Notre Dame's Zoey Arnold, 6-3, 6-1. Deters then fell to Alton's Abby Scyoc, 6-3, 6-4. That dropped her into the consolation bracket where she had a first round bye before defeating her own teammate, Laura Schmidt, 8-2 to move into the title contest but it was not played.

Schmidt fell to Niles North's Zarina Sayed, 6-0, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, she had a first round bye before beating Rochester's Sophie Ommen, 8-5. She then lost to teammate Deters, 8-2.

In the No. 1 doubles, St. Anthony's Quincy Buenker and Reese Jones combined and fell in their opener to BCC's Carty Heilndmur and Kirsten Vost, 6-1, 6-1. The pair then defeated Lincoln's Lynzie Luster-Rachel Kaufman, 8-0 before losing to Niles North's Lisa Duan and Lasmina Farcas, 8-0.

In the No. 2 doubles, St. Anthony's Caroline McDevitt and Madelyn Smith won over Niles North's Katelyn Ng and Sharlene Manlongat, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7. The pair fell to BCC's Bella Horig/Bella Kiper, 7-6(5), 6-3 to drop into the third place match where they lost to Sacred Heart-Griffin's Camile Arisman and Claire Daily, 6-4, 6-4.

The No. 2 Bulldog team of Karen Canales-Gonzales and Molly Jansen lost their opener to Rochester's Sha Reynolds and Jill Anderson, 6-0, 6-1. They had a bye in the first round of consolation then lost to Alton's Katie Saenz and Lydia Criveau, 8-0.
