EHS, T-town Claim Tennis Victories

Effingham High School downed Charleston 6-3 while celebrating Senior Night in tennis action Monday.

The Hearts honored their 10 seniors that included Nate Linders, Brennan Barr, Cole Stanfield, Lucas Hagler, Colby Heaton, Ty Morrissey, Jerry Crowell, Eli Wilson, Alan Hazelton and Pedro Carrillo.

In singles action, Parker Siner claimed No. 2, 6-4, 6-3 while Linders was a winner at No. 2. Linders lost the opener 6-2 but came back to win 7-6 (1), 10-7. Brennan Barr then took No. 4, 6-4, 6-4 while Cole Stanfield was a winner at No. 5, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Lucas Hagler finished out the singles victories at No. 1, winning 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles play, Linders and Barr combined at No. 2 to win, 6-4, 7-6 (7).

Other senior members results were Ty Morrisey won 8-0, Jerry Crowell won 8-7, Alan Hazelton-Eli Wilson won 8-1 in doubles and Pedro Carrillo won 10-8.

At Effingham

No. 1 -- Keegan Gowin (C) defeated Ben Donsbach (E), 6-7 (7), 6-3, 10-5

No. 2 -- Parker Siner (E) defeated Zach Will (C), 6-4, 6-3

No. 3 -- Nate Linders (E) defeated Gage Gough (C), 2-6, 7-6 (1), 10-7

No. 4 -- Brennan Barr (E) defeated Paul Witto (C), 6-4, 6-4

No. 5 -- Cole Stanfield (E) defeated Cameron Garrett (C), 7-6 (6), 6-4

No. 6 -- Lucas Hagler (E) defeated Pierson Smith (C), 6-2, 6-1

Doubles

No. 1 -- Gowin-Will (C) defeated Donsbach-Siner (E), 6-3, 6-0

No. 2 -- Linders-Barr (E) defeated Gough-Witto (C), 6-4, 7-6 (7)

No. 3 -- Will Cope-Vince Dinaso (C) defeated Stanfield-Colby Heaton (E), 6-4, 4-6, 10-7

 

At Flora

Flora handed Effingham St. Anthony a 3-1 loss in action Monday.

The lone point for the Bulldogs came at the No. 3 spot as Henry Kemme lost the opener 6-2 but came back with 7-5, 6-2 scores for the victory.

The Bulldogs are now 2-8 on the season.

No. 1 -- Mason Beckham (F) defeated Michael Kaldas (SA), 6-1, 6-3

No. 2 -- Matthew Suntrup (F) defeated Will Kabbes (SA), 6-0, 6-1

No. 3 -- Henry Kemme (SA) defeated Carter Collins (F), 2-6, 7-5, 6-2

Doubles

No. 1 -- Nate Freeman-Alex Lane (F) defeated Kaldas-Kabbes (SA), 7-5, 6-4

 

At Newton

Teutopolis sailed through singles play and picked up two of the three doubles matches to down Newton, 8-1 Monday.

Kyele Mossman won the top singles match, 6-0, 6-1. Jacob Pals won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Then came three straight matches that Wooden Shoes players won 6-0, 6-0 as Seth Probst, Alex Deters and Mitch Deters were all quick winners. Clint Apke took the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, Pals and Probst combined to win, 6-2, 6-1. The Deters pair claimed the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-0.

Newton's point came from the No. 3 doubles as Greg Sandschafer and Logan Brewer won 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.
