Effingham, St. Anthony Drop Tennis Matches

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School fell to Charleston 5-4 in tennis action Monday.

The Hearts won two of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests. In singles play, Ben Donsbach claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 while Brennan Barr took No. 3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-6 (7-2).

In doubles play, Donsbach and Nate Linders combined to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-6 (7-2). Zack Kietel and Barr won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0.

At Charleston

No. 1 -- Keegan Gowin (C) defeated Nate Linders (E), 6-2, 6-3

No. 2 -- Ben  Donsbach (E) defeated Paul Witto (C), 6-1, 6-2

No. 3 -- Brennan Barr (E) defeated Gage Gough (C), 6-4, 5-7, 6-6 (7-2)

No. 4 -- Sam White (C) defeated Jacob Sigg (E), 6-1, 6-0

No. 5 -- Zach Will (C) defeated Colby Heaton (E), 6-3, 6-4

No. 6 -- Cameron Garrett (C), defeated Zack Kietel (E), 2-6, 6-2, 7-5

Doubles

No. 1 -- Donsbach-Linders (E) defeated Gowin-Will (C), 4-6, 6-4, 6-6 (7-2)

No. 2 -- Kietel-Barr (E) defeated Witto-Gough (C), 6-2, 6-0

No. 3 -- White-Chaney (C) defeated Sigg-Andrew Qui (E), 6-4, 6-4

 

At St. Anthony

Flora came calling and blanked Effingham St. Anthony, 7-0.

The Bulldogs had two hard-fought matches in singles play. Michael Kaldas eventually fell at No. 3, 6-0, 3-6, 10-7 while Will Kabbes lost in a three-set match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

In doubles, Kabbes and Augustus Heal fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.
