Two Days in the Books at 2017 Girls Tennis State Tournament

Two days are in the books in the Girls Tennis State Tournament and St. Anthony's singles player and doubles team are still alive in the competition.

Sophomore Emilee Mossman suffered her first loss Friday, 3-6, 0-6 after three wins in the tournament. Mossman had won 6-0, 6-1; 6-0, 6-1; and 7-6, 6-0 before the Friday loss.

The St. Anthony doubles combo of freshman Allison Kowalke and senior Claire Wortman won their first three matches in the tournament, 6-3, 6-1; 6-2, 6-0; and 6-2, 6-4 before losing Friday 0-6, 1-6. 

As far as the other area players who made it to State: 

--sophomore Jacelyn Street of Newton won, then lost, then won twice before losing, going 3-2 at State

--junior Julia Hardiek of Newton won, but then lost twice

In doubles:

--senior Lauren Hemmen and sophomore Alli Brumleve lost, then won twice, then lost to finish 2-2 at State

--juniors Chloe Funneman and Lauryn Douthit of Effingham won, then lost, then won, then lost to finish 2-2

--seniors Sydney Zumbahlen and Lesley Woods of Newton won, then lost twice to finish 1-2 at State

St. Anthony, by the way, is in a tie for third at State with 12 points.
