Thursday Action at 2017 Girls State Tournament

Local players are still faring well through most of the Thursday action at the Girls State Tennis Tournament in the Chicagoland area.

A couple of local players have ended their play at State.

Teutopolis junior Julia Hardiek won her first round match 6-4, 6-2, but then lost two matches, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0.

Newton seniors Sydney Zumbahlen and Lesley Woods won their first match 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, but lost their next two matches, 6-0, 6-3 and then won 6-4 only to lose 6-0, 10-6.

Everyone else, though, is still active.

St. Anthony sophomore Emilee Mossman won her first two matches, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1.

Newton sophomore Jacelyn Street won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, lost 6-0, 6-1, but then won 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, St. Anthony freshman Allison Kowalke and senior Claire Wortman won their first two matches, 6-3, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0.

Teutopolis senior Lauren Hemmen and sophomore Alli Brumleve lost their first match, 6-3, 6-1, but then won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1.

Effingham High juniors Chloe Funneman and Lauryn Douthit won their first match 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, then lost 6-1,  6-2, then won 6-2, 6-4.

The tournament continues through Saturday.
