Bulldogs Down Braves, Hearts Fall To Tigers in Tennis

Effingham St. Anthony hosted Mount Zion and sent the Braves home with an 8-1 loss in tennis competition Thursday.

The Bulldogs' Emilee Mossman took the No. 1 singles victory 6-4, 6-1. Allison Kowalke claimed No. 3, 6-1, 6-2 while Catherine Willenborg, Megan Hodge and Averee Greene went 6-0, 6-0 against their opponents.

In doubles play, Claire Wortman and Kowalke were 6-0, 6-1 winners. Hodge and Mary Ann Saba finished out the second match 7-5, 6-1. Mossman and Willenborg went the distance for a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

"Good competition in one, two and three singles," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "This contest will help us get ready for sectionals."

The Bulldogs are now 9-0 on the season.

In a junior varsity match, St. Anthony won 5-3.

At Olney

Olney played host to the Hearts and sent the Effingham squad home with a 7-2 loss Thursday.

The two points for Effingham came at the No. 2 singles as Lauryn Douthit beat Zoe Alexander, 6-2, 6-0 and at the No. 1 doubles when Chloe Funneman and Douthit picked up a hard-fought win over Logan Kauble-Riley Doll, 4-6, 7-6(3), 10-5.
