St. Anthony, T-town Claim Girls Tennis Wins

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School downed host Robinson 8-3 in tennis competition Thursday.

The Bulldogs' Emilee Mossman blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles spot. From there, Claire Worman won at No. 3, 6-4, 6-0 and Allison Kowalke took the fourth spot 6-0, 6-0. Averee Greene was a winner at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. The two squads played seven singles. Jessica Cook won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 7.

The teams played four doublers. St. Anthony took three of those as Wortman and Kowalke won at the top spot, 6-2, 6-3. Megan Hodge and Maryann Saba took the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-3. Greene and Madison McWhorter won the final spot, 6-2, 6-3.

The Bulldogs are back in action Satudray at the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffith Invitational.

No. 6 -- Alysha Clements (R) defeated Caroline Deters (SA), 5-7, 6-4, 10-3

No. 2 -- Megan Hodge-Maryann Saba (SA) defeated Benty-Morgan Graupmonn (R), 6-1, 6-3

No. 3 -- Schalburg-Clements (R) defeated MaKenzie Koenig-Allie Dasenbrock (SA), 6-3, 6-7, 3-7

No. 4 -- Greene-Madison McWhorter (SA) defeated Stallen-Watson (R), 6-2, 6-2

 

At Greenville

Teutopolis moved its record to 2-0 with an 8-1 victory over Greenville Thursday.

The Shoes swept the singles action as Julia Hardiek, Lauren Hemmen, Allie Brumleve, Diana Mossman, Nicole Deters and Logan Blankenship were winners. The closest match came at No. 1 as Hardiek won 6-0, lost 6-2, then won 10-2. The rest of the contests were 6-0 or 6-1.

In doubles play, Hemmen and Brumleve won 6-1, 6-0 while Mossman and Deters combined for a 6-2, 6-0 count.
