St. Anthony Captures Own Tennis Tourney

Effingham St. Anthony High School captured its own tennis tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs tallied 45 points followed by Teutopolis 21 1/2, Mount Zion 20 1/2, Newton 20 1/2, St. Anthony Two 20, Robinson 18, Herrin 15, Charleston 14 1/2, Alton Marquette 12 1/2, Greenville 99 1/2, Decatur Lutheran 7, Teutopolis JV 1 and Vandalia 0.

The Bulldogs' Emilee Mossman claimed the No. 1 singles by beating Parekh (Decatur Lutheran), 6-0, 6-0, Street (Newton), 6-2, 6-0 and Ridgeway (Herrin), 6-0, 6-0.

In No. 2 singles, Catherine Willenborg claimed the victory by downing Ventiniglia (Maruqette), 6-0, 6-0, Burk (Herrin), 6-0, 6-0 and Santos (Mount Zion), 6-0, 6-1.

Averee Greene won the No. 3 singles by beating Ahern (Greenville), 6-0, 6-1, Thomas (Charleston), 6-3, 6-0 and Cook (St. Anthony Two), 6-1, 6-2.

In the No. 1 doubles, Claire Wortman and Alison Kowalke were the champions. The pair downed Rudibaugh-Orlik (Charleston),l 6-0, 6-0,  Zumbahlen-Woods (Newton), 6-0, 6-2 and Hemmen-Brumleve (Teutopolis), 6-0, 7-5.

In No. 2 doubles, Maryann Saba and Megan Hodge were the winners downing Eldridge-Fummelt (Mount Zion), 6-1, 6-1; Crawford/Kimmerson (Decatur Lutheran), 6-1, 6-1 and Mossman/Deters (Teutopolis), 6-2, 6-2.
