Lauren Hoekstra Only Player Left At State Tourney

Effingham High School's Lauren Hoekstra is the lone area player left at the State Tennis Tournament after competition Thursday.

Hoekstra opened singles play with a win over Vinaya Rao of Lincolnshire Stevenson, 6-3, 6-4. Hoekstra then fell in the second round to Anne Marie Emme of Glenview Glenbrook South, 6-3, 6-2. But Hoekstra came back in the second round consolation to pick up a victory over Christina Su of Normal University, 6-3, 6-0. She will continue play today at the state tournament against Ariel Lozovsky of Deerfield at Mount Prospect in third round consolation.

In other singles action, St. Anthony's D.J. Brummer won her opening match over Erica Pulley of Marion, 6-0, 6-2. But Brummer fell to Kadi Fauble of Quincy, 6-1, 6-1 and exited the tournament with a loss to Kelsey Chin of Aurora Metea Valley, 6-1, 6-1.

T-town's Elena Breer lost to Ashley Kosy of  Algonquin Jacobs, 6-1, 6-1 in opening round play. That dropped her into the consolation bracket where she picked up a victory over McKenna Byrne of Elmhurst Timothy Christian, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. She then fell to Hannah Post of  Rolling Meadows, 6-0, 6-0 to see her tourney stay end.

In doubles action, Anna Utz and Lexie Niebrugge of St. Anthony lost in opening round play to Jenny Mizika and Amelia Cogan of Batavia, 6-2, 6-0. The pair then fell from further tournament play with a loss to Amy Shah and Neha Patel of Danville, 6-3, 6-2.

T-town had a doubles team entered, Allison Vogt and Cheyenne Lueken. The duo lost in opening round action to Paige Hutchcraft and Evelyn Mendez of Benton, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. They dropped into consolation brackt play where they won over  Annika Zeilstra and Sarah Dirkse of Elmhurst Timothy Christian, 6-2, 7-6(3). The pair then exited the tourney with a loss in second round consolation play to Maggie Ruane and Kelly Ruane of New Lenox Providence Catholic, 6-0, 6-1.

The state tourney continues today and finishes out with finals Saturday.
