Bulldogs Edge Hearts, Shoes Beat Green Wave in Tennis

Effingham St. Anthony edged Effingham 5-4 in boys tennis competition Thursday.

The two teams split singles victories. Jay Niebrugge, Chandler Martelli and Liam Hammer claimed wins for the Bulldogs. Aaron Conley, Drake Hill and Ashton Haythrone won for the Hearts.

In doubles play, Niebrugge and Chris Jones won at No. 1 for the Bulldogs while Conley and Haythrone claimed the No. 2 spot. Ian Harris and Hammer were winners at No. 3 for the Bulldogs.

EHS drops to 6-1 while St. Anthony improves to 6-1.

No. 1 -- Jay Niebrugge (SA) defeated Derek Minor (E), 6-1, 6-1

No. 2 -- Aaron Conley (E) defeated Chris Jones (SA), 4-6, 6-0, 6-2

No. 3 -- Drake Hill (E) defeated Ian Harris (SA), 6-2, 6-2

No. 4 -- Ashton Haythrone (E) defeated Andy Saba (SA), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2

No. 5 -- Chandler Martelli (SA) defeated Nick Katz (E), 3-6, 7-5, 6-4

No. 6 -- Liam Hammer (SA) defeated Kaleb Blake (E), 6-1, 6-3

Doubles

No. 1 -- Niebrugge-Jones (SA) defeated Minor-Hill (E), 6-4, 6-2

No. 2 -- Conley-Haythrone (E) defeated Martelli-Kyle Hartke (SA), 6-0, 6-2

No. 3 -- Harris-L. Hammer (SA) defeated Katz-Blake (E), 6-0, 6-4

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blanked Mattoon 9-0 to improve to 8-1 on the season.

Andy Mersman, Trevor Lee, Kyele Mossman, Jacob Mette, Noah Pals and Joseph Esker all picked up singles victories.

In doubles play, Lee combined with Mette to win 6-3, 6-1 while Pals and Alex Probst won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Esker and Alex Meinhart went the distance at No. 3 to win 6-2, 7-6(4).
