EHS Edges C-W, T-town Blanks Flora

Effingham High School remained unbeaten in tennis action by edging Casey-Westfield 5-4 in competition Monday.

The Hearts and Warriors split in singles action. Aaron Conley won at the No. 1 spot for the Hearts 6-1, 6-0 while Drake Hill claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2. Ashton Haythrone scored a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3.

The Hearts then won the top two spots in doubles to clinch the win. Jared Minor and Hill won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 while Conley and Haythrone combined to win 6-3, 7-6.

The Hearts are now 5-0.

Teutopolis blanked Flora 9-0 to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Andy Mersman easily won at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-0 while Kyele Mossman, Joseph Esker and Alex Meinhart were 6-1, 6-1 winners. Noah Pals claimed the No. 3 position 6-2, 6-2 while Alex Probst won at No. 5 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles play, Trevor Lee and Jacob Mette won 6-0, 6-0. Pals and Probst combined for a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Esker and Meinhart went 6-0, 6-1.

In junior varsity competition Monday, T-town handed Mattoon an 8-1 loss to push its record to 5-1 on the season.
