After the storm-in-a-teacup created by Novak Djokovic's comment that he "handed" Roger Federer a group-stage win earlier this week, it is perhaps ironic he won the ATP World Tour Finals title match on a double fault.

Djokovic has already called this "by far" his best year, but now it is official. He capped off one of the most glorious seasons in the Open era by ending 2015 with a career-best 11 titles, thanks to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Federer at the O2 Arena on Sunday.

The world No.1 makes history as the first man to win the season finale four times in a row, claiming his fifth title overall having also won in Shanghai in 2008.

He is now level with Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras, and will have Federer's record tally of six in his sights next November.

"It's been an incredible season. Sitting here with this trophy alongside me, I couldn't ask for a better finish of the season," Djokovic said in his press conference.

"This season definitely stands out. I can't say I expected it, not at all. But I always gave my best, and I'm always asking from myself the most.

"I was always hoping that I can play this well throughout the entire season. Managing to reach this kind of season and achievement this year obviously gives me a lot of confidence for anything that is coming in the future."

Breaking his French Open duck, and claiming the career Grand Slam with it, will obviously be high on Djokovic's list of priorities for 2016.
