T-town Beats St. A, Hearts Win In Tennis Action

Teutopolis High School handed Effingham St. Anthony an 8-1 loss in tennis competition Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes took five of the six singles matches and swept in doubles play. Kaitlin Deters, Christa Schwinke, Lauren Hemmen, Audra Breer and Molly Smith picked up singles wins. The lone Bulldog victory came at No. 1 as Mary Claire Wegman won 6-4, 5-3 retired. 

In doubles play, Brumleve and Breer combined to win at No. 1 while Smith and Hemmen took No. 2. The final spot went to Deters and Schwinke.

The Wooden Shoes are now 11-0 on the season.

At St. Anthony

Singles

No. 1 -- Kaitlin Deters (TT) defeated Claire Wortman (SA), 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 -- Christa Schwinke (TT) defeated Kelly Rentfrow on a forfeit injury

No. 3 -- Lauren Hemmen (TT) defeated Megan Hodge (SA), 7-5, 7-5

No. 4 -- Mary Claire Wegman (SA) defeated Sidney Brumleve (TT), 6-4, 5-5, retired

No. 5 -- Audra Breer (TT) defeated Madison McWhorter (TT), 6-1, 6-1

No. 6 -- Molly Smith (TT) defeated Mary Ann Saba (SA), 5-7, 7-5, 1-0(9)

Doubles

No. 1 -- Brumleve-Breer (TT) defeated Wegman-Rentfrow (SA), 6-4, 7-6(5)

No. 2 -- Hemmen-Smith (TT) defeated Wortman-Hodge (SA), 6-3, 6-4

No. 3 -- Deters-Schwinke (TT) defeated McWhorter-Saba (SA), 6-2, 6-2

 

At Effingham

Effingham blanked Greenville 9-0 in Tuesday competition.

Emma Kull, Chloe Funneman, Kyra Bannister, Megan Allen, Lauryn Douthit and Skyler Schafer were winners in singles play.

In the doubles, Kull and Allen combined to win at No. 1 while Funneman and Douthit took the No. 2 spot. Miranda Johnson and Mallory Logan were winners at No. 3

Effingham will celebrate Senior Night against Robinson Thursday and then travel to Flora for the final regular season match before the sectional tournament at EHS.
