EHS Beats St. A, T-town Picks Up Another Tennis Win

Effingham High School handed Effingham St. Anthony a 6-3 defeat in tennis competition Monday.

St. Anthony's Jay Niebrugge won the No. 1 singles spot, 6-4, 6-3. But the Hearts took the next four singles spots as Aaron Conley, Drake Hill, Ashton Haythrone and Matt Niebrugge were winners. Conley and Haythrone went three sets before pulling out the win. St. Anthony's Chandler Martelli then took the No. 6 spot.

In doubles, Minor and Hill won for the Hearts 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1. The Hearts then took the No. 2 spot as Conley and M. Niebrugge were winners. St. Anthony's Jeff Niebrugge and Kyle Hartke won at No. 3, 7-6, 6-2.

St. Anthony drops to 8-1 on the season while Effingham improves to 3-2.

No. 3 -- Jeff Niebrugge-Kyle Hartke (SA) defeated Haythrone-Linders (E), 7-6, 6-2

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis kept its record spotless with an 8-1 win over Olney Monday.

The Wooden Shoes won five of the six singles spots. Andy Mersman, Nick Pals and Mitch Meinhart took the top three spots while Jacob Mette and Christian Deters were winners at No. 5 and No. 6.

In doubles play, Mersman and Pals combined to win 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1. Trevor Lee and Mette combined at No. 2 to win 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(2). Meinhart and Noah Pals took the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-3.

The Wooden Shoes will play host to Effingham today with a 10-0 record.
