Effingham High School evened its tennis record at 2-2 with a 6-3 win over Mount Zion Wednesday.

The Hearts won the top three singles spots as Jared Minor claimed a 6-2, 7-6(4) win while Aaron Conley won 7-6(3), 6-1, 7-5 and Drake Hill picked up a victory 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The final singles win came at No. 6 when Jake Gadberry lost the opener 6-2 but came back 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles, Minor and Hill combined to win at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4. Matt Linders and Nick Katz then took the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-0.

"This was a good win for us," said EHS Coach Angela Woods. "Mount Zion has a lot of talent and a young team. Four of our six singles matches went to third set tie breaks and we won three of those. The boys fought hard and it paid off."
