Bulldogs, Wooden Shoes Nab Tennis Victories

Effingham St. Anthony edged Mattoon in tennis competition Thursday, 5-4.

The Bulldogs picked up four of the six singles wins and one doubles victory.

Alec Niebrugge was a winner in a close contest at the No. 2 spot. Niebrugge won 6-4, lost 7-5 then came back 10-8. Ian Harris took the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-3 while Jeff Niebrugge won at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0 and Andy Saba claimed No. 6, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, J. Niebrugge and Saba were 6-3, 6-1 winners at  No. 3. The Bulldogs remained unbeaten at 7-0 and will host their own invitational Saturday.

At Mattoon

Singles

No. 1 -- Hunter Levingston (M) defeated Jay Niebrugge (SA), 6-3, 5-7 (15-13)

No. 2 -- Alec Niebrugge (SA) defeated Andy Vieth (M), 6-4, 5-7 (10-8)

No. 3 -- Craig Hennis (M) defeated Chris Jones (SA), 6-2, 6-2

No. 4 -- Ian Harris (SA) defeated Jacob Woodyard (M), 6-3, 6-3

No. 5 -- Jeff Niebrugge (SA) defeated Jack Rabain (M), 6-0, 6-0

No. 6 -- Andy Saba (SA) defeated M.J. Vrand (M), 6-3, 6-1

Doubles

No. 1 -- Henness-Stoll (M) defeated Ja. Niebrugge-Jones (SA), 6-3, 6-4

No. 2 -- Levingston-Vieth (M) defeated A. Niebrugge-Harris (SA), 6-0, 6-3

No. 3 -- Je. Niebrugge/Saba (SA) defeated Jacob Woody-Nate Fara (M), 6-3, 6-1

 

At Mattoon

Teutopolis continues to roll with a 9-0 trouncing of Paris Thursday. The Wooden Shoes are unbeaten at 7-0.

Mitch Meinhart took the No. 1 singles spot, 6-2, 6-3 while Trevor Lee won at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. Christian Deters also blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Jacob Mette took No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. Joseph Esker went 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 and Alex Probst won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

In doubles play, T-town's only challenge was at No. 1 but Andy Mersman and Nick Pals went 6-1, 6-2. The next two doubles teams, Lee and Mette and Deters and Probst, were 6-0, 6-0 winners.
