Bulldogs, Shoes Claim 8-1 Tennis Victories

Effingham St. Anthony High School opened the boys tennis season with an 8-1 victory over Robinson Tuesday.

The Bulldogs nabbed all six singles victories as Jay Niebrugge, Alec Niebrugge, Chris Jones, Ian Harris, Jeff Niebrugge and Andy Saba were easy winners.

In doubles play, Jay Niebrugge and Jones combined for a 6-2, 6-1 win. Donovan Hammer and Tommy Schottman picked up the No. 3 spot, 7-5, 6-2.

The Bulldogs aren't back in action until Monday at Mount Zion.

At St. Anthony

No. 1 -- Jay Niebrugge (SA) defeated Tom Goodman (R), 6-1, 6-0

No. 2 -- Alec Niebrugge (SA) defeated David Jenkins (R), 6-0, 6-0

No. 3 -- Chris Jones (SA) defeated Cameron Ireland (R), 6-0, 6-1

No. 4 -- Ian Harris (SA) defeated Lukas Baird (R), 6-3, 6-1

No. 5 -- Jeff Niebrugge (SA) defeated Duncan Fiscus (R), 6-1, 6-2

No. 6 -- Andy Saba (SA) defeated Conner Weber (R), 6-0, 6-1

Doubles

No. 1 -- Jay Niebrugge-Jones (SA) defeated Goodman-Ireland (R), 6-2, 6-1

No. 2 -- Jenkins-Ireland (R) defeated Chandler Martelli-Kyle Hartke (SA), 7-5, 6-1

No. 3 -- Donovan Hammer-Tommy Schottman (SA) defeated Weber-Prouty (R), 7-5, 6-2

 

At Shelbyville

Teutopolis moved its record to 2-0 on the season with an 8-1 win over Shelbyville Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes took the No. 2 through No. 6 singles spots as Tyler Broom, Alex Probst, Alex Meinhart, Noah Pals and Justin Vogt picked up victories.

In doubles play, Esker and Pals combined at the top spot to win 6-2, 6-4. Broom and Probst were 6-1, 6-2 winners. At No. 3, Meinhart and Devin Sabo claimed the win 6-2, 6-0.
