Bulldogs Beat Greenville, EHS Falls To Mt. Zion

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Greenville and picked up an 8-1 victory in tennis competition Monday.

The Bulldogs swept through the singles matches. Kelly Rentfrow won at No. 1, 6-4, 7-6 (6) while Anna Schutzbach won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4. Tierney Hammer took 6-3, 6-3 wins. Mary Claire Wegman picked up a hard-fought match, losing the opener 6-1 but coming back with 6-3, 6-3 wins. Claire Wortman won when her opponent was injured. Chloe Malone claimed 6-1, 6-1 victories.

In doubles, the Bulldogs took the top two spots. Rentfrow and Schutzbach combined to win, 6-2, 6-3. Hammer and Wegman won 6-4, lost the second game 6-4 and came back with the same 6-4 count for the win.

In junior varsity competition, St. Anthony was a 5-0 winner.

At Effingham

Mount Zion came calling and blanked Effingham 9-0 in tennis competition Monday evening.

The Braves closest match came at No. 3 where they won 6-1, 7-6. In the other matches, the Braves were either 6-0, 6-0 winners or won 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the closest contest came at No. 3 as the Braves won 6-2, 6-4.
