St. Anthony Picks Up Tennis Win

Effingham St. Anthony High School opened the tennis season by blanking Newton 9-0 Monday evening.

In singles play, Kelly Rentfrow, Anna Schutzbach, Tierney Hammer, Mary Claire Wegman, Claire Wortman and Chloe Malone claimed victories.

In doubles action, Hammer and Wegman won at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1 while Malone and C. Wortman were 7-5, 6-2 winners. Madison McWhorter and Mary Anna Saba were 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 winners.

"It was hot but is was a good match," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker.

Returning letterwinners for the Bulldogs are seniors Anna Schutzbach, Tierney Hammer and Chloe Malone and sophomroes Kelly Rentfrow and Mary Claire Wegman. New tennis athletes are sophomore Rachel Wortman and freshmen Claire Wortman, Madison McWhorter, Maryann Saba, Megan Hodge, MaKenzie Koenig, Keri Mcguire, Reese Buenker and Evi Malone.

The junior varsity claimed a 3-0 victory.
