EHS Wins City Boys Tennis Match Over St. A.; T-Town Loses to Mattoon

Effingham High School defeated St. Anthony 7-2 Thursday in the annual boys tennis match between the two city schools.

St. Anthony claimed the #1 singles and #3 singles matches, but Effingham won the other four singles matches and swept the doubles matches.

In the #1 singles match, St. Anthony's Frank Jansen defeated Effingham's Wyatt Wohltman, 6-2, 6-0 and in the #3 singles match, Jay Niebrugge of St. Anthony downed Effingham's Aaron Meyers, 6-1, 6-2.

Effingham's Jared Minor won the #2 singles match over St. Anthony's Scott Rentfrow, 6-2, 6-4; Effingham's Parth Maheshwari won over St. Anthony's Alec Niebrugge in #4 singles,, 6-0, 6-3; the #5 singles match went to Effingham's Jason Wohltman over St. Anthony's Benton Hakman, 6-0, 6-1; and Drake Hill of Effingham defeated St. Anthony's Jeff Niebrugge in the #6 singles match, 6-0, 6-7, 6-4.

In doubles, Jared Minor and Jason Wohltman of EHS defeated St. Anthony's Scott Rentfrow and Jay Niebrugge in the #1 match, 6-2, 7-5; Wyatt Wohltman and Aaron Meyers won the #2 match over St. Anthony's Frank Jansen and Ian Harris, 6-2, 6-2; and Effingham's Drake Hill and Aaron Conley won the #3 match over St. Anthony's Alec Niebrugge and Luke Jansen, 6-2, 7-6.  

Effingham improved to 5-0 on the spring with the victory, while St. Anthony suffered its first loss of the spring after seven wins.

Teutopolis suffered its first boys tennis loss of the spring to Mattoon Thursday, 6-3.

T-Town's Kyle Brumleve and Andy Mersman won the #1 and #2 singles; Brumleve winning 6-4, 6-3 and Mersman capturing his match, 6-3, 6-0.  Jacob Mette won the #5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.  

Nick Pals, Trevor Lee and Nick Ruholl suffered losses in singles play, while Andy Mersman and Mitch Meinhart, Jacob Mette and Trevor Lee, and Jay Funneman and Keith Weber were swept in doubles play.

Teutopolis is now 6-1 on the spring.
