Bulldogs Edge Mattoon 5-4 in Tennis Action

Effingham St. Anthony edged Mattoon 5-4 in tennis competition Thursday.

Frank Jansen claimed the top spot in singles for the Bulldogs 6-1, 6-3 while Scott Rentfrow followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2. St. Anthony took the next two victories as Jay Niebrugge won 6-2, 6-3 and Alec Niebrugge won 7-5, 7-5. Mattoon won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

In doubles play, St. Anthony was a winner at No. 1 as Rentfrow and Jay Niebrugge combined 6-3, 6-2. Mattoon claimed the next two doubles victories.

Coach Joe Reynolds' squad remains unbeaten at 6-0 on the season and are back in action Saturday in the Champaign Centennial Invitational.

No. 2 -- Vieth/Masse (M) defeated Benton Hakman/Luke Jansen (SA), 6-1, 6-4

No. 3 -- Levingston/Davis (M) defeated Ian Harris/Jones (SA), 6-4, 6-4
