Effingham High School pushed its tennis record to 3-0 on the season with a 7-2 victory over Mattoon Thursday evening.

The Hearts picked up five of the six singles wins. Isaac Foreman won 6-1, 6-3 while Jared Minor pulled out 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 wins. Aaron Meyers won 6-1, 6-2 and Parth Maheshwari went out 6-1, 6-0. Jason Wohltman finished at No. 6 winning 6-2, then falling 6-1, before taking the match 6-4.

EHS went 2-1 in doubles action. Foreman and J. Wohltman were winners 6-2, 6-0. Meyers and W. Wohltman went three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. The Hearts are back in action Monday at Casey-Westfield.

In junior varsity play, the Hearts blanked Mattoon 9-0.

At Charleston

Teutopolis took charge and handed Charleston a 9-0 loss to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The closest singles match came at No. 3 as Nick Pals lost the opener 6-4 but came back with 6-3, 6-3 victories for the win. Kyle Brumleve, Andy Mersman, Mitch Meinhart, Trevor Lee and Jacob Mette were singles winners.

In doubles play, Mersman and Kyle Weber won 7-5, 6-3. Jay Funneman and Meinhart combined to win 6-4, 6-1. Mette and Lee, both sophomores, won 6-3, 6-1.
