St. Anthony, T-town Nab Tennis Wins

Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis both picked up tennis victories in competition Tuesday.

St. Anthony 7, Hillsboro 2

The Bulldogs nabbed five of the six singles victories. Frank Jansen, Scott Rentfrow, Jay Niebrugge and Chris Jones all had easy victories in the top four spots. Jeff Niebrugge then captured the No. 6 spot by going 6-7, 7-6 (10-6) over his opponent.

In doubles play, Rentfrow and Jay Niebrugge combined to win easily 6-1, 6-0. F. Jansen and Ian Harris combined at No. 2 to win 4-6, 6-1 (10-2).

The Bulldogs are now 2-0 on the season and back in action Saturday at the Troy Triad Invitational.

At Hillsboro

No. 1 -- Frank Jansen (SA) defeated Conner Talley (H), 6-3, 6-1

No. 2 -- Scott Rentfrow (SA) defeated Ben Leible (H), 6-1, 6-0

No. 3 -- Jay Niebrugge (SA) defeated Luke Mackey (H), 6-0, 6-3

No. 4 -- Chris Jones (SA) defeated Colton Caulk (H), 6-3, 6-4

No. 5 -- Brad Norguil (H) defeated Luke Jansen (SA), 7-6, 6-7 (10-4)

No. 6 -- Jeff Niebrugge (SA) defeated Austin Grabow (H), 6-7, 7-6 (10-6)

No. 2 -- F. Jansen-Ian Harris (SA) defeated Talley-Norguil (H), 4-6, 6-1 (10-2)

No. 3 -- Caulk-Grabow (H) defeated Jeff Niebrugge-Benton Haikman (SA), 6-4, 6-3

Andy Saba/Donovan Hammer (SA) defeated Sharp-Watson (H), 9-7; Saba-Hammer (SA) defeated Kper-Shipley (H), 6-0

 

Teutopolis 7, Salem 0

Teutopolis hit the road to Salem and handed the homestanding Wildcats a 7-0 loss.

The Shoes took all four singles contests as Kyle Brumleve and Jacob Mette blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 while Nick Pals won 6-3, 6-2 and Trevor Lee 6-1, 7-5.

In doubles play, Brumleve and Pals won 6-0, 6-0 at the top spot. Andy Mersman and Keith Weber combined to win 6-1, 6-3. Jay Funneman and Mitch Meinhart then finished out 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.

The match was the season opener for the Shoes who return to action Thursday hosting Paris.
