Jasper County Claims Softball Regional Title

Class AA Charleston Regional
Jasper County was the lone area junior high softball team to claim a regional championship Monday. Jasper County handed host Charleston a 7-5 loss.
Jasper County broke a 2-2 first inning tie with three runs in the fourth. Charleston pulled within 5-4 in the bottom of the frame then tied the score in the fifth. The score stayed tied until the eighth inning when Jasper County brought home two runs for the victory.
Jasper County had nine hits in the contest. Jasper County advances to the Mattoon Sectional Saturday against Mattoon at 1 p.m.
Class AA Sullivan Regional
Effingham saw its season come to a close with a 3-1 loss to host Mattoon in the regional championship game.
Mattoon's Briana Poehler had a single and triple in the win. Paige Arthur pitched a two-hitter with six walks and seven strikeouts. The Wildcats are now 17-4 and advance to meet Jasper County Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Mattoon Sectional.
Effingham had three hits led by Carsyn Fearday with a double.

Class 1A Ramsey Regional
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell in the championship game of the Ramsey Reigonal to Findlay Okaw Valley, 5-3.
Windsor/S-S took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Okaw Valley tied the score in the second but Windsor/S-S came back to regain the lead 3-1 in the fourth. However Okaw Valley tied the score once again in the fifth and then tallied two runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory.
Pyrinthia Ballinger had two singles and an RBI for Windsor/Stew-Stras while Megan Schlechte had a double. The squad finishes the season with a 13-6 record.

Class A Cumberland Regional
Cumberland fell in its own regional championship to Casey-Westfield 7-2. The score was knotted at 1-1 after the first inning and 2-2 after the fifth. Casey-Westfield then broke the game open with a five-run sixth.
Clarie Guyon had a single and a double for Cumberland while Madison Hendrix and Macey McElravy had two singles each.
Cumberland finishes the season with a 13-4 record. Casey-Westfield takes a 13-2 mark against Okaw Valley Saturday to the Cumberland Sectional.
