Effingham St. Anthony hosted Shelbyville in junior high softball action and edged the visitors 4-3 in action Tuesday evening.
St. Anthony took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-0 after four and tallied two more in the fifth. Shelbyville came back with three in the bottom of the fifth only to fall short.
Marci Mills picked up the pitching win going 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with six walks and four strikeouts. Katie Kabbes came on in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing no hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Kabbes led in hitting with a single, triple and drove in two runs.

Effingham ran into a tough Mattoon squad and fell to the homestanders who improve to 6-0 on the season.
Effingham held a 1-0 lead in the top of the second but Mattoon came right back in the bottom of the frame to tally two runs and never looked back.
Carsyn Fearday led the Mustangs with a single and double while Vanessa Ramos had a triple and Kaitlyn Kinkelaar a double.
In a B contest, Mattoon claimed an 11-1 win.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 15-0 in three innings. The winners banged out 13 hits in the contest while Schlechte pitched a no-hitter.
Windsor-Stew/Stras led 5-0 after the first then tallied two in the second and eight in the third. The winners had 13 hits in the contest led by Schlecte with three singles and an RBI, Roney with a single, double and two RBI and Pepperdine with two singles and two RBI.
