Altamont Beats C.C./N.C. In Softball Regional

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School advanced to the championship of its own Class 1A Softball Regional with a victory Thursday.

The Indians downed Clay City/North Clay, 9-4.

C.C./N.C. opened with a 2-0 first inning lead and led 4-0 after two innings. Altamont came back with two in the third and tied the score at 4-4 in the fourth.

The Indians then went on a four-run tear in the fifth and tacked on a final run in the sixth.

Altamont had 10 hits in the game led by Madison Tonn with two singles and two RBI, Claire Boehm with two singles and an RBI and Skylie Klein and Peyton Osteen with two singles each. Grace Lemke and Sophia Pearcy added a single and an RBI each.

Lemke had Clay City/North Clay on the ropes from the mound, striking out 19 in the contest. She gave up four runs on six hits and three walks.

Clay City/North Clay was led by Morgan Hance with two singles, a triple and two RBI and Gracie Marshoff with a triple and an RBI. The squad ended the season with a 5-9 record.

Altamont advances to the championship game Saturday against Edwards County (Albion) at 10 a.m. The winner will head to the South Central Sectional next Wednesday.
