Bulldogs, Shoes, Cougars, Pirates, Hatchets Advance In Softball Regionals

TEUTOPOLIS -- Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis will meet for the championship of the Class 2A Teutopolis Softball Regional after both teams claimed victories Wednesday.

The Bulldogs blanked Pana by a 10-0 count in five innings. St. Anthony ran out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning then tacked on four more in the third to end the game.

Lucy Fearday threw a no-hitter, going all five innings, not allowing a walk while striking out eight.

The Bulldogs had seven hits led by Sydney Kibler with a home run and three RBI, Stacie Vonderheide with a single, double and two RBI, Anna Faber with a double and an RBI, Abbie Hatton with a double and Haily Niebrugge with a single and an RBI.

The second game was just the opposite as Teutopolis went 10 innings before beating Westville, 3-1.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after three innings and didn't score again until the Shoes tallied two in the top of the 10th for the win.

The Wooden Shoes had eight hits led by Summer Wall with two singles, a triple and an RBI, Erin Althoff a single and double, Emiiy Konkel a triple and Kaylee Niebrugge two singles and an RBI.

Courtney Gibson was the winner on the mound, going all 10 innings, allowing one run on nine hits, five walks while striking out seven.

Class 1A South Central Regional

South Central and Grayville picked up victories in this regional Wednesday.

The Cougars blanked Webber Township (Bluford) 10-0 in six innings in the opener. The Cougars tallied five in the third, then added on one in the fourth and two in the fifth and sixth each.

Kinlee Thompson had three singles And drove in a run while Ella Watwood had a single, double and four RBI. Brooklyn Garrett had a double and an RBI and Kyra Swift two singles.

In the second game, Grayville won easily over Wayne City, 18-8.

South Central (23-9) will now take on Grayville Friday at 4 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 1A Altamont Regional

Edwards County (Albion) handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 17-2 loss Wednesday.

Today's contest features Altamont taking on Clay City/North Clay at 4:30 p.m.

Edwards County advances to meet the winner of the Altamont vs. Clay City/North Clay at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

Class 1A Hutsonville Regional

Windsor/Stewarsdon-Strasburg downed host Hutsonville, 8-6 Wednesday.

Cumberland then tallied an easy win over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville, 13-5.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will square off against Cumberland at 5 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.
