Effingham St. Anthony put together a whopping 19 hits and tallied a 23-1 high school softball win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Monday.

The Bulldogs ran out to an 11-0 opening inning lead then added on three in the second and nine in the third, ending the contest in the fourth inning.

Eight hits were for extra bases. Kallie Kabbes led the way with a single, double, home run and two RBI while Anna Faber had a triple, home run and five RBI. Sydney Kibler had a single, home run and three RBI, Addie Wernsing a single, triple and an RBI, Nora Gannaway three singles and an RBI, Camille Wines a double and two RBI, Laney Coffin a double, Hailey Niebrugge two singles and an RBI and Stacie Vonderheide two singles.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had two hits, singles by A. Claymcomb with an RBI and M. Sapp.

Wernsing went two innings, allowing one run, no walks and striking out four. S. Kibler finished the last two innings, allowing one run on one hit, one walk and six strikeouts.

At Cowden

Effingham came calling at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and tallied a 17-5 victory Monday.

The Hearts edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the third, two in the fourth and fifth innings and finished with 11 in the seventh.

Alyssa Martin and Natalie Armstrong wielded the big bats on the day. Martin had a single, two doubles and four RBI while Armstrong had a single, double, home run and three RBI. Cora Hartmann finished with a double, triple and three RBI while Bria Beals had a home run and three RBI.

Beals went six innings for the win on the mound. She allowed three runs on six hits, two walks while striking out 10.

CHBC was led by Macee Rodman with two doubles, a triple and an RBI and Adelyn Musson with a home run and two RBI. Ruby Stuckemeyer added two singles and Ryleigh Sarver a single and two RBI.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis came through with a run in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-7 win over South Central Monday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 lead after two innings then added on four in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 7-0 lead.

The Cougars broke loose with a seven-run sixth inning to knot the score at 7-7, but the Shoes tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth and held off South Central in the seventh for the victory.

Erin Althoff had the only extra base hit for the Shoes with a double and three RBI. Danielle Sarchet and Courtney Gibson had two singles each. Gibson added three RBI.

South Central was led by Jaylyn Michel with a double and two RBI.

Jordan Goeckner picked up the pitching win, coming in for 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk and striking out two.

At Altamont

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 1-1 first inning tie with an 11-run second and went on for an 18-1 victory over Altamont in four innings Monday.

The Hatchets finished with 12 hits led by Ella Kinkelaar with a single, double, triple and four RBI, Sam Hayes with three singles and five RBI, Alaira Friese with a double and two RBI and Sam Porter with two singles. Ellie Wittenberg and Raegyn Wallin had a single and drove in two runs each.

Hayes was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on three hits, no walks while striking out seven.

Altamont was led by Claire Boehm, Peyton Osteen and Sophia Pearcy with a single each.

At Mattoon

Newton took a 5-0 opening inning lead and went on for a 17-4 win in five innings over Mattoon Monday.

The Eagles had firepower with 19 hits in the contest. Audrie Reich had two singles, a home run and three RBI while Addy O'Dell had two singles and a double. Lexie Grove had four singles and two RBI. Lilly Kessler two singles and two RBI, Avery Mulvey two singles and an RBI, Kayla Kocher a single and three RBI and Camryn Martin a single and two RBI.

Kocher was the winner on the mound, going four innings, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and striking out four.

At Mattoon

At Grayville

Clay City/North Clay went 11 innings against Grayville and fell by a 9-8 count Monday.

Grayville held a 1-0 lead until the third when CC/NC moved ahead 3-2. CC/NC then had a two-run fifth to lead 5-2. Grayville tallied a run in the sixth and then tied the score at 6-6 in the seventh with three runs. The two teams tallied two runs each in the eighth and went scoreless through the ninth and 10th innings. Grayville then scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th.

Morgan Hance led CC/NC with a single and double while Gracie Marshoff, Gracie Barber and Faith Jones had two singles each. Barber had two RBI and Jones one RBI. Hali Mainer had  a triple and an RBI.

The Wolves are now 4-3 on the season.

Dieterich tore out to a 4-1 first inning lead but Odin got untracked and came back to take a 17-7 victory in six innings Monday.

The Movin' Maroons had 11 hits in the contest led by Estella Meinhart with two singles,  a double and an RBI, Sammie Goebel with a single, double and an RBI, Ruby Westendorf with two singles and thee RBI and Lucie Jansen with two singles and an RBI.

Odin had 13 hits led by Trista Moore with a single, two home runs and five RBI, Lauren Robb with a solo homer and Maci Spicer with two doubles and an RBI.
