Effingham High School ended this softball contest in the fifth inning via the 10-run rule Monday.

The Hearts defeated Hillsboro by an 11-1 count. The score was tied at 1-1 in the top of the second but the Hearts scored two in the bottom of the frame, three in the third and five in the fourth.

Riley Cunningham had a single, double and an RBI while Sydney Donaldson had two singles and three RBI for the Hearts. Mya Harvey added two singles, Natalie Armstrong a single and two RBI. Raegan Boone and Abby Cunningham had a single and an RBI each.

R. Cunningham went 1.2 innings before turning the mound over to Armstrong who picked up the victory. She went 3.1 innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out four.

At Effingham

At Shelbyville

Effingham St. Anthony had a six-run fifth inning in downing Shelbyville by a 7-1 count Monday.

The Bulldogs had offensive power with 12 hits in the game. Stacie Vonderheide had two doubles and an RBI while Lucy Fearday finished with a single, triple and two RBI. Ady Rios and Addie Wernsing had a double and an RBI each. Cameran Rios added two singles. Hailey Niebrugge and Anna Faber had a single and an RBI each.

Fearday was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings allowing one run on three hits, one walk while striking out nine.

At Shelbyville

At St. Elmo

Altamont took a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back in a 12-5 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Monday.

The Indians had 15 hits in the game and were aided by six SEB errors.

Peyton Osteen had two singles, a double and three RBI. Grace Lemke had four singles. Brianna Grunloh had a siingle, double and an RBI and Madison Tonn two singles and two RBI. Lanie Tedrick added two singles and an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Ireland with two singles and two RBI.

Lemke was the winning pitcher, going two innings, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and striking out six.

At Bluford

South Central's Kinlee Thompson threw a two-hitter as the Cougars downed Webber Township (Bluford), 10-0 in five innings Monday.

Thompson allowed one walk while striking out six.

The Cougars had 11 hits led by Kyra Swift with a triple and two RBI, Taegan Webster with three singles and an RBI, Zoey Feldhake with two singles and two RBI and Jaylyn Michel and Thompson with two singles each. Michel added an RBI.

South Central is now 9-3 on the season and returns to action today against St. Elmo/Brownstown.

At Cowden

Teutopolis took the early lead and handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 12-1 loss Monday.

The Wooden Shoes led 2-0 after the first then scored one in the second, five in the fourth, one in the six and three in the seventh.

T-town banged out 12 hits in the game and was aided by five CHBC errors. Kaylee Niebrugge had three singles and an RBI while Emily Konkel hit a single, triple and drove in two runs. Erin Althoff had two singles and two RBI and Malea Helmink and Jordan Goeckner two singles and an RBI each.

Jordan Goeckner went five innings on the mound, allowing one run on two hits, six walks and striking out three. Courtney Gibson finished up two innings allowing one walk while striking out four.

CHBC was led by Addison Wasson with a solo home run.

At Cowden

At Mount Carmel

Newton took a 4-3 lead in six innings but Mount Carmel tied in the bottom of the seventh. The game went through four more innings before the Eagles won 5-4 in the 11th Monday.

Newton had 14 hits. Lexie Grove had a home run and two RBI while Camryn Martin had two singles and a triple. Bailee Frichtl and Allie Stanley had a single and double each. Frichtl added an RBI. Lilly Kessler and Kayla Kocher had two singles each.

Kocher was the winning pitcher, going 10 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, five walks and striking out six. Avery Mulvey finished the final inning allowing one hit and one walk.

At Mount Carmel

Odin scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-6 win over Dieterich Monday.

Odin took a 4-2 opening inning lead but Dieterich tied in the top of the second. Odin moved ahead 5-4 in the third inning but Dieterich took a 6-5 lead in the fifth.

Dieterich outhit Odin by a 8-7 count. Brittney Niemerg led the way with two singles, a double and two RBI while Ruby Westendorf and Estella Meinhart had a double each. Westendorf added an RBI. Ella Kreke had two singles and an RBI.
