Effingham Heat 14U softball team opened with a pair of wins Wednesday evening against the MO.CO. Rush from Sullivan.

In game one, it was a battle of the pitchers. Hope Collier tossed a three-hitter to pick up the win. The Rush took an early first inning lead but that was all they could push across. The Heat were shut out until the fifth when Collier doubled with two outs then scored on a wild throw to third.

The Heat then scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Kaylee Tonn doubled with two outs then Parker Corder singled to center scoring Tonn. The Heat also had hits from Jenna Woltman, Shayna Phillips and Camryn Heuerman.

In game two, the Heat brought out the hitting sticks, opening the first with seven runs on eight hits then added five more runs in the second.

The Heat were led by Woltman, Corder,  Wright and Heuerman with two singles each, Tonn with a single and double and Collier and Alexis Sullivan with a single each. Corder threw a two-hit shutout to pick up the win.

The Heat are back in action Friday against the Marshall She Cats at 6 p.m. at the EHS softball field.
