Cumberland Advances to Title Game

MACON -- Cumberland High School moved into the championship game of the Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Softball Sectional with a 13-3 win over Ramsey Tuesday. The game was moved to Meridian High School in Macon because of the wet weather.

The score was tied at 2-2 after the first inning but the Pirates took a 3-2 lead in the third then broke the game wide open with an eight-run fourth.

The Pirates had their hitting shoes on with 15 hits in the contest. Ramsey finished with six errors. Kyla Thornton went four-for-four with an RBI, Kaylee Carlen had a single, triple and three RBI, Audrey Casey two singles, Katie Poe, two singles and two RBI and Micah Seibert a single, double and two RBI.

Carlen picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter and 11 strikeouts. The Pirates improve to 14-11 and will take on the winner of today's Effingham St. Anthony vs. Pawnee game Saturday in the championship at 11 a.m.
