CHARLESTON -- Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Charleston for a junior high softball contest Friday and fell by a 10-0 count in five innings.

Charleston scored single runs in the first, second and third innings, two in the fourth and five in the fifth.

The Bullpups did not get a hit against two Charleston pitchers, R. Cox who went four innings with five strikeouts and A. Hogan who went an inning with one strikeout. Neither allowed a walk.

At Dieterich

Dieterich pounded out 11 hits and scored a 19-4 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. CHBC had 17 errors.

Dieterich held a 2-0 lead and CHBC tied in the second. Dieterich tallied two more in the second but once again CHBC tied in the top of the third. However, Dieterich broke the game open with a seven-run third and finished out with an eight-run fourth.

At Kinmundy

South Central played host to Neoga and claimed a 7-2 win Friday.

Neoga held a 1-0 lead in the second inning but South Central tallied three in the third and four in the fifth.

Maddie Peddicord led the way with a triple for the winners. Baylee Brown had a single and drove in two runs while Emmie Ruholl had a single and an RBI.

Peddicord was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, allowing one walk while striking out 14.

South Central improved to 1-1 in the National Trail Conference, 4-1 overall.

At Altamont

Jasper County captured the championship of the Altamont Opening Day Tournament Saturday.

In the opener, Jasper County defeated Altamont, 14-2 in three innings.

Jasper County edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then had a nine-run second and a three-run third.

Jasper County had eight hits led by Georgia Reich with a double, home run and two RBI, Claire Probst with a triple and Allie Hermann with two singles and an RBI. Keeleigh Davis added a single and drove in two runs.

Altamont was led by Laila Hankins with two triples and an RBI and Kennedi Schultz with a triple and an RBI.

In the second contest, St. Anthony bounced Sullivan by a 14-2 count in three innings.

The Bullpups rushed out to a 9-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

St. Anthony had only four hits led by Aubrey Denning with two singles and an RBI and Gianna Frisbe with two RBI.

Emeline Wines picked up the win, going two innings, allowing one run on one hit, three walks and three strikeouts.

In the third place contest, Altamont was an 11-5 winner over Sullivan.

Altamont stepped out to a 6-1 opening inning lead, tacked on three in the second and two in the fourth.

Altamont had three hits, singles by Cecilia Pearcy and Sophie Long with a single and an RBI each and Jocelyn Pearcy.

Long went all five innings allowing five runs on two hits, seven walks while striking out six.

In the championship contest, Jasper County came out the winner by a 7-2 count.

Jasper County took the early lead with a run in the first then tacked on two in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth.

Jasper County had nine hits led by Reich with two singles, a home run and two RBI and Jacee Dhom and Maleah Miller with two singles and an RBI each.

St. Anthony had only two hits, singles by Reese Hoene and Sophia Emmerich. Emmerich added an RBI.

Jasper County is now 6-1 on the season.

At Cowden

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg won the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tournament Saturday.

In the opener, CHBC defeated Mulberry Grove by a 14-4 count.

CHBC had nine hits and was aided by 10 Mulberry Grove errors. CHBC was led by Haley Doty, Brynlie Pope and Brylie Prater with a double each. Allison Shields and Jordyn Wright had two singles each.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg then tallied a 14-0 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown in three innings. SEB did not have a hit while WSS had 13 hits.

WSS took a 9-0 opening inning lead and tacked on five more in the second. WSS had 13 hits in the game.

In the third game, St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Mulberry Grove by a 12-11 count despite having only one hit.

In the fourth contest, WSS won over CHBC, 12-0 in three innings.

WSS took an 8-0 opening inning lead and never looked back. WSS had nine hits to only one for CHBC.

The fifth game went to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg by a 21-0 count in three innings. WSS held an 11-0 opening inning lead and had eight hits. Mulberry Grove did not have a hit.

In game six, CHBC was a 12-1 winner over SEB.

CHBC held a 1-0 first inning lead then added on seven in the second and four in the third.

Allison Shields had three singles for the winners while Brynlie Pope had a single and double. Jayla Arnett and Natalie Tucker added two singles each.

Pope picked up the win on the mound allowing one hit.

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the tournament with a 3-0 record while CHBC took second at 2-1 followed by SEB 1-2 and Mulberry Grove 0-3.

South Central fell twice at Casey-Westfield Saturday.

In the first contest, Casey-Westfield was a 15-3 winner over South Central.

South Central held  2-1 lead in the first but the host squad tallied six runs in the second and that was the game.

South Central had three hits, all singles by Brianna Buchanan, Jamalyn Logan and Baylee Brown. Logan had an RBI.

In the second contest, South Central fell to Mount Carmel 10-0.

South Central had two hits, singles by Buchanan and Logan.

South Central dropped to 4-3.
