St. Elmo/Brownstown was outhit and had three more errors but claimed a 5-2 victory over Effingham St. Anthony in high school girls softball action Monday.

The Eagles took a 2-1 first inning lead. The Bulldogs tied the score in the fourth inning but St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with two runs in the top of the fifth and tacked on a final run in the seventh.

The Eagles had five hits while St. Anthony had seven hits. S. Feezel and S. Austin led St. Elmo/Brownstown with two singles and an RBI each. Austin picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter with two walks and four strikeouts.

St. Anthony was led by Paige Koester with two singles and D.J. Brummer with a double.

Casey-Westfield captured a Little Illini Conference win over Cumberland 12-1. The Warriors stepped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings then put the game away with a six-run sixth.

Maleah Neil had a single and a home run for the winners while Brigette Belt had a double and two RBI. Lexi Black picked up the pitching win going six innings, allowing five hits, one run and two strikeouts.

Paige Oakley had two singles and Katie Poe a home run and an RBI for the Pirates who drop to 4-1 in the conference, 6-5 overall.

Newton trounced Oblong 15-0 in five innings. The Eagles took an 11-run lead in the first inning and never looked back.

Hardiek pitched a no-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts. Swingler went four-for-four with a single, three triples and four RBI. Johnson had three singles and two RBI and Fore a single, triple and three RBI.
