Junior High Softball Regional Results -- Sept. 24

Effingham Junior High School moved into the championship game of the Class 3A Softball Regional and will now face Jasper County for the title Saturday at 11 a.m. at Boys and Girls Park in Newton.

 

Charleston edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead and pushed that to 4-0 in the top of the fourth. The Mustangs came roaring back with a four-run bottom of the fourth then pushed ahead 6-4 in the sixth. Charleston tallied one final run in the sixth and fell to Effingham, 6-5.

Effingham outhit Charleston by a 13-7 count. Kristen Armstrong had two singles and drove in three runs for the winners. Jerzi Bierman had three singles and an RBI while Bria Beals had two singles and two RBI and Saige Althoff added two singles. Madi Kirk had a single and drove in two runs.

Althoff picked up the pitching win, throwing a seven hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Jasper County edged Mattoon, 5-4 to advance to the championship.

Class 1A Regional

South Central reached the championship game of the Class 1A Regional by blanking Findlay Okaw Valley, 10-0.

South Central stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead and never looked back.

The winners had 15 hits in the game led by Montes with three singles, a triple and two RBI, Reid with a single, triple and an RBI, Ky. Swift with a single, triple and two RBI and Shuler with a single, two triples and an RBI.

The squad improved to 9-6 on the season and will take on Mulberry Grove at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Mulberry Grove edged Effingham St. Anthony, 9-8. No other information was provided.

Class 2A Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg handed Shelbyville Moulton a 6-2 loss to reach the title contest.

WSS took a 3-0 first inning lead. Moulton came back with a run in the third but WSS tallied three more in the fourth. Moulton finished out with a run in the fifth.

Samantha Hayes was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, allowing two runs on two hits, no walks and striking out a whopping 14.

Alaira Friese had a single, triple and an RBI while Hayes added two singles and two RBI.

In the other contest, Assumption Central A&M was a 5-3 winner over Sullivan.

WSS will play host to Assumption Central A&M at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Regional

Teutopolis will play host to the regional championship Saturday at 9 a.m. and will meet Clay City for the title.

The Wooden Shoes handed Altamont a 7-2 loss. Altamont edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead. T-town came back to take control in the third with four runs and the fourth with three.

T-town had four hits led by R. Kemme with two singles and three RBI. Wermert added a single and an RBI.

Altamont was led by L. Reardon, K. Schultz and P. Siebert with a single each. S. Klein added an RBI.

M. Helmink nabbed the win on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing three hits, four walks while striking out 10.

Clay City downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 12-2.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. Clay City then had a four-run second and fourth and tacked on two final runs in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Marshoff had two singles, a double and two RBI for the winners, Gaddy two singles and two RBI, Whitmore a single, triple and an RBI, and Hurd and Boose a single and two RBI each.

Hurd threw a one-hitter. The lone hit for CHBC came from Ellie Miller with a single and an RBI. CHBC ended the season with a 2-6 record.

Dieterich easily advanced to the championship game and, as the top seed, will play host to the title game Saturday at 10 a.m.

Dieterich pounded Martinsville, 13-1.

In the second contest, Hutsonville/Palestine downed Neoga, 15-0.

Hutsonville/Palestine will travel to Dieterich for the regional crown.

 

 

Class 2A Regional

Marshall and Casey-Westfield will meet for the championship of the Class 2A Regional Saturday.

Casey-Westfield blanked Red Hill (Bridgeport), 10-0.

In the second contest, Marshall won over Lawrenceville Parkview by the same 10-0 count.

Marshall travels to Casey-Westfield for a 1 p.m. championship game.
