Mattoon Wins Thursday Contest 15-9 Over St. Anthony

Mattoon posted a 15-9 junior high softball win Thursday over St. Anthony.

Falling behind 11-0, St. Anthony rallied for five runs in the fifth inning, three runs in the sixth, and a single tally in the seventh, but couldn't shut down Mattoon, who added a run in the sixth and three in the seventh to secure the win.

For St. Anthony, Rios had three hits and drove in a run, Walton had two hits with a RBI, Wines had two hits and a RBI, Kabbes singled, Hartmann singled, Johnson singled and drove in a run, Faber singled, and Scheidemantel tripled and singled.

Nuxoll took the loss, going 3-2/3 innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on five hits and six walks while striking out two. Wines pitched the final 3-1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, three earned, on seven hits and four walks, fanning two.
