Effingham St. Anthony and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will be squaring off for the Class 1A Altamont Softball Regional after both picked up victories Saturday.

 

WSS opened the day with a 6-3 win over Teutopolis. WSS took a 2-0 first inning lead then had two-run innings in the second and third. T-town came back with a run in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Leading the winners were Marisa Daniels with a single, double and two RBI, Addie Wernsing with two singles and an RBI and Samantha Hayes with two singles.

T-town was led by Althoff and Wall with a single and triple each. Wall had two RBI.

In the next contest, St. Anthony edged South Central, 8-7 in eight innings.

The Bullpups held a 1-0 lead until the fourth with South Central tied. St. Anthony moved back ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. South Central took a 4-2 lead in the fifth but here came the Bullpups with four in the bottom of the frame. St. Anthony moved ahead 7-4 in the sixth but South Centarl tied in the top of the seventh to send the game into the eighth.

St. Anthony then scored the winning run. The Bullpups had 12 hits led by Sydney Kibler withe a single, double, home run and three RBI and Hunter NIebrugge with two singles, a home run andt hree RBI. Madeline Kibler added two singles and Adysen Rios with a triple and an RBI.

No names were listed for South Central.

St. Anthony meets Windsor/Stew-Stras at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Class 2A Cumberland Regional

Effingham's season came to a close with a 6-4 loss to Jasper County in the Cumberland Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs took a 3-0 first inning lead but Jasper County came back with a five-run third then tallied a run in the fourth. Effingham scored its final run in the fifth.

The Mustangs had six hits led by M. Harvey with a double and two RBI, R. Boone with a double and E. Niebrugge with a triple.

Jasper County was led by A. O'Dell with a triple and A. Mulvey with two RBI.

In the second game, Mattoon downed Charleston, 7-3.

Jasper County and Mattoon meet today at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 2A Cumberland Regional

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Clay City/North Clay fell to Casey-Westfield 11-1 to see its season come to a close Saturday.

Leading Clay City/North Clay were Leah Cartright with two singles and an RBI and Morgan Hance with a single and double.

Hance picked up the pitching loss going five innings, allowing four hits, only four earned runs, eight walks and 11 strikeouts. She finished the season with a 7-5 record and 185 strikeouts for a total of 545 for her junior high career.

The Cubs finish the season with an 8-6 record.

In the second game Martinsville claimed a 7-3 win over Paris Crestwood.

Crestwood now meets Casey-Westfield today at 4:30 for the regional title.
